The most durable rubber end gasket material depends on the specific application environment, but fluororubber (FKM) is usually the first choice in terms of overall high-temperature resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, and long-term stability.
1. Fluororubber (FKM) – The "King of Durability" in Extreme Conditions
Advantages: Excellent high-temperature resistance (-20℃~200℃), superior chemical corrosion resistance, resisting strong acids, strong alkalis, organic solvents, and oxidizing media; resistant to aging even after long-term use.
Lifespan Performance: In harsh environments such as chemical and aerospace industries, its sealing performance can be maintained stably for many years, far exceeding that of ordinary rubber.
Applicable Scenarios: High-temperature reactors, corrosive fluid transportation, fuel systems, and other applications requiring extremely high reliability.
Note: Higher cost, but due to its extremely long service life, its total life-cycle cost is more advantageous.
2. Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) Rubber – A Long-Lasting Performer in Outdoor and Heat-Aging Environments
Advantages: Excellent weather resistance, ozone resistance, and heat aging resistance; stable performance in environments with ultraviolet radiation, humidity, and large temperature fluctuations.
Lifespan: 15 to 25 years in building sealing and hot water systems; under proper construction conditions, it can even exceed 50 years.
Applicable Scenarios: Roof waterproofing, door and window sealing, steam pipes, and other non-oil-based environments.
Caution: Not resistant to mineral oil; prone to swelling and failure upon contact with oil.
3. Silicone Rubber – A Stable Performer in a Wide Temperature Range
Advantages: Extremely wide temperature range (-100℃ to 300℃); maintains elasticity even under extreme high and low temperature cycling; not easily becomes brittle or softened.
Lifespan: Can operate stably for long periods in electronic and medical equipment; however, it has lower mechanical strength and is susceptible to physical wear.
Applicable Scenarios: Refrigeration equipment, high-temperature ovens, food-grade seals, etc.
4. Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) – A "Durable Warrior" in Oily Environments
Advantages: Low volume expansion rate in mineral oil and lubricating oil environments; not easily swelled or deformed with long-term contact; good wear resistance.
Lifespan: Can be used stably for many years in hydraulic systems and engine seals, but is prone to aging at high temperatures.
Applicable Scenarios: Automotive and mechanical hydraulic systems.
