The most durable rubber seal material depends on the specific application environment. There is no single material that is absolutely "most durable," only the most suitable selection for the working conditions.
Strongest overall performance: Fluororubber (FKM)
Advantages: High temperature resistance (-20℃ ~ 250℃), oil resistance, strong acid and alkali resistance, oxidant and organic solvent resistance, extremely strong chemical stability, and does not easily age with long-term use.
Applications: Chemical equipment, aerospace, automotive engines, sealing of highly corrosive media.
Durability: In extreme high temperature and corrosive environments, its lifespan far exceeds that of other rubbers, making it the most durable choice for harsh working conditions.
Best outdoor weather resistance: Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM)
Advantages: Excellent resistance to ozone, ultraviolet rays, water vapor and heat aging, suitable for long-term outdoor exposure.
Applications: Building door and window sealing strips, automotive wiper blades, solar panel frame seals, etc.
Durability: Stable for over 10 years in environments exposed to direct sunlight and rain.
Wear Resistance and High-Pressure Dynamic Sealing: Polyurethane Rubber (PU)
Advantages: High mechanical strength, tear resistance, high pressure resistance, and good resilience.
Applications: Hydraulic cylinder piston seals, reciprocating motion components.
Durability: Better wear resistance than NBR and FKM in high-pressure reciprocating motion, but prone to hydrolysis at high temperatures, limiting long-term stability.
Excellent Oil Resistance: Nitrile Rubber (NBR)
Advantages: Excellent resistance to mineral oil, lubricating oil, fuel oil, etc., low cost, and wide application.
Applications: Automotive oil seals, fuel line seals, industrial hydraulic systems.
Durability: Stable in oily environments at room temperature, but not resistant to high temperatures and ozone; prone to aging when used outdoors.
Extreme Temperature Adaptability: Silicone Rubber (VMQ)
Advantages: Wide operating temperature range (-55℃ ~ 250℃), cold and heat resistant, good electrical insulation.
Applications: Refrigerator door seals, medical equipment, high-temperature oven seals.
Durability: Does not easily become brittle or soften in extremely cold or high-temperature environments, but has low mechanical strength and is not wear-resistant.
