How Long Is The Lifespan Of Rubber Bushings?

Apr 13, 2026 Leave a message

The lifespan of rubber bushings is generally 5 to 10 years, but the actual lifespan is affected by many factors and varies considerably.

Key factors affecting the lifespan of rubber bushings:

  • Usage Environment: Long-term exposure to high temperatures, high humidity, acid and alkali corrosion, or ultraviolet radiation will accelerate rubber aging, hardening, and even cracking. For example, the bushing life of vehicles in coastal areas or industrial zones may be significantly shortened.
  • Driving Habits and Road Conditions:Frequent rapid acceleration, hard braking, and high-speed driving over potholes or speed bumps will exacerbate the mechanical fatigue of the bushings. Vehicles that drive on unpaved roads experience bushing wear much faster than urban commuter vehicles.
  • Mileage: It is generally recommended to inspect or replace rubber bushings between 60,000 and 100,000 kilometers. For some models, such as the Peugeot 308, a thorough inspection every 2-3 years is recommended, while models like the Volkswagen Touran can be replaced around 100,000 kilometers.

Material Differences

  • Natural Rubber: Good elasticity and wear resistance, but poor oil resistance;
  • Nitrile Rubber: Excellent oil and gasoline resistance, suitable for engine peripheral parts;
  • Silicone Rubber: Non-toxic and odorless, suitable for applications requiring hygiene.
