What Are The Material Choices For Rubber Bushings?

Apr 20, 2026 Leave a message

The main material choices for rubber bushings include natural rubber, nitrile rubber, silicone rubber, fluororubber, ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), and butyl rubber, etc. Each material is suitable for different working conditions due to its different properties.

Natural Rubber (NR): It has high elasticity, excellent tear resistance and abrasion resistance, making it suitable for applications requiring good cushioning and shock absorption, such as suspension bushings. However, its oil resistance, solvent resistance, and heat resistance are relatively poor, and its operating temperature generally does not exceed 60℃.

Nitrile Rubber (NBR): It has excellent oil and heat resistance, especially against gasoline and aliphatic hydrocarbon oils, making it suitable for oily environments. Its operating temperature can reach up to 90℃, and it has a wide range of applications.

Silicone Rubber (VMQ): It is non-toxic and odorless, with excellent high and low temperature resistance (-60℃~100℃), and strong chemical inertness. It is often used in food, pharmaceutical, and other applications with hygiene requirements.

Fluororubber (FKM): Excellent resistance to acids, alkalis, oils, chemical corrosion, ozone, and atmospheric aging. Suitable for harsh environments with highly corrosive media, but relatively expensive.

Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM): Strong resistance to oxidation, ozone, and corrosion. Good adaptability to harsh climates, stable physical properties, and low cost. Can withstand operating temperatures up to 150℃, making it an excellent vibration damping material.

Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR): Good resilience, wear resistance, and low cost. Commonly used in applications requiring high elasticity but not high oil resistance.

Butyl Rubber (IIR): Excellent airtightness and shock absorption performance, strong impermeability, suitable for applications requiring high sealing performance.
